FiberKC Event to Drive Discussion on KC Tech Talent and Google Fiber
Regional group will highlight current and future needs for an innovative workforce
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jan. 10, 2012 – With the announcement of Google Fiber coming to Kansas City, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo., FiberKC is hosting Inside KC-TECH — 2012 and Beyond. This panel discussion on Tuesday, January 24 from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Boulevard Brewing Company will highlight the thoughts of regional tech leaders on how KC can leverage Google Fiber to increase the tech workforce pipeline.
“As the executive of an IT company in Kansas City, I am all too aware of the limited local technology talent pool and the need to better align educational output with business needs,” said Jeff Melcher, FiberKC founder and CEO of NetStandard. “Kansas City can become a national technology leader, but we have to create an environment where the path to success is better understood by both aspiring technologists and educational institutions.”
Inside KC-TECH will focus on KC’s current and future workforce needs as well as what the future of technology will look like for the Kansas City Region. Rachel Hack, Kansas City community manager for Google, will give a status update on the Google Fiber project in KC, and technology panelists include: Jean Anne Breedlove, CIO, Children’s Mercy Hospital; Jeff Geheb, CTO, VML; Bill Graff, senior vice president, Cerner; Kelly Kerns, CIO/COO, GreenTree Technology and AB Pathfinder; and Paul Pauesick, director of IT, Kansas Board of Public Utilities.
